What is a Talent™ Device?

An aneurysm is a condition characterized by an abnormal ballooning or bulging of the arterial wall. An aneurysm can develop anywhere along the course of the aorta, the main blood vessel that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the different parts of the body. Aneurysms that occur in the part of the aorta that passes through the chest are called thoracic aortic aneurysms.

The Talent™ Thoracic Stent Graft System is designed to treat descending thoracic aortic aneurysms using a minimally invasive procedure called endovascular stent grafting.

Thoracic stent grafts provide an alternative to open surgery for patients with a descending thoracic aortic aneurysm. The Talent™ Stent Graft is a fabric tube supported by a metal framework. It is used to help prevent the thoracic aortic aneurysm from rupturing. The device is not recommended in patients with a condition that threatens to infect the graft or in patients with known sensitivities or allergies to the device material.

Your doctor will make a tiny cut over the insertion site, over your groin. Through this incision, a delivery catheter, a long thin tube-like device, guides a stent graft through the blood vessels to the site of the aneurysm. Once the graft is positioned, it is released from the delivery catheter. The device self-expands to encompass the diameter of the aorta. The placement of the graft is intended to exclude (seal off) the aneurysm and reline the arterial wall. The delivery catheter is then withdrawn and the incision over your groin is closed.
